MessageSujet: Government tactics -->got to see 'em to defeat 'em   Dim 30 Mar - 18:30

Like a slow death by poisoning the government feeds us small doses of toxicity little by little. So that when one dies it is not attributable to a single act, but some other plausibly unrelated cancer that eats away at society. A direct attack is combatable, one can turn to face the enemy, and easily rally others to help fight the aggressor. Like the battle that led to law 101, the subjugation of the francophones was evident, and their sufferance was universal, and as a result, the people were unified.

The first rule of subversive attack then has been to divide and conquer. Given the nature of the French to debate virtually everything, this tactic is relatively easy to employ as evidenced by the multiple separatist parties. As one argues over semantics, forward momentum is halted, and like the issues, the “common” goal becomes clouded.

The second method of attack, is to make exceptions to the majority. For instance, not ALL authoritarian positions are held by Anglophones. Notable examples, previous Prime Ministers, and Michaëlle Jean, the governor general. Thus whitewashing the international profile, while dumping the bio-hazardous emptied paint cans on the people for disposal. The anglo-imperialism machine has learned that by buying a few people at the top, one can still control the masses. Hence, the sponsorship scandal, which had a two-fold effect, buying loyalty in the interim and perpetuating prejudice and misunderstanding in the long-term. Because outside of Quebec this has widely been interpreted as the separtists holding Ottawa hostage for a ransom.

Third, seed the environment with the ideologies you wish to prevail and diminish the level of education. If educational resources are cut, or funding is diverted to building infrastructures, or minority group programs, instead of the core books and educators, the result is the same, a generation of non-independent thinkers, unskilled labourers, and a handful of frustrated intellectuals prone to a defeatist or depressive attitude. Silenced by a majority fed by mass media and television, those who should be the intellectual authority to be consulted for advice, have become societal rejects, labelled alarmist, conspiracy theorists or unpatriotic fools. And as one generation begets the next, so arises a fundamental shift in society’s consciousness. So that just as the Quebecois are often incomprehensible to the French, the future generations become similarly disassociated with the Quebecois language and culture that the 1970s generation fought so hard to protect.

Lastly, hide or excuse your own actions by deferring blame to another. The best example of this is immigration debate in Quebec. Canada boasts that it has given Quebec more control over who immigrates than other provinces, although Canada retains veto-power. However, despite being declared an “independent nation” one cannot become a citizen of Quebec, one becomes a citizen of Canada, and thereby swears an allegiance to the Queen and not Quebec.

The deferring blame game arises with the commission Bouchard-Taylor, who make the Quebecois out to be guilty of racism because they themselves “are merely immigrants” who then unjustifiably demand of newcomers an assimilation to their culture. The study ignores the historical role of the Quebecois, and their own fight not to be assimilated. Furthermore, in shifting the focus from the root of the immigration problem, the pledge of allegiance to the Queen, they make out the Franco-community to be some sort of xenophobic racist monster.

The world is in an upheaval these days. Many minority groups are fighting for independence or against oppression. I could have just have easily supported my arguments with examples against the “Big Brother” politics of the “war on terror”, instead of the plight of the Quebecois. But unfortunately, these tactics work and we remain divided. Most people literally can’t see the forest for the trees, waving their own nationalist flag in one hand and the Imperialist generated propaganda in another. It doesn’t matter what language it’s written in, the truth is not in the news, its hidden in history, in the hearts of the oppressed, and available only to those willing to research the sources and make decisions for themselves. But what do I know; I’m just a frustrated intellectual.

Ignorance is like an appetite; just as we can fill ourselves on junk-food, we can reinforce the lies and prejudice of propaganda; neither nourish- but both leave one feeling bloated.
